Confluence Outfitters has one of the best guide teams in Northern California. Our guides are experts on the Lower Sac from Redding to Red Bluff. The 2-day combo trip is popular throughout our season at Eagle Canyon, especially for groups of 4 to 8 anglers. Visit our Combo Trips page to read more about this exciting 2-day trip!

Guest report from Tony Carbonell from Red Bluff: "Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout Lakes is not just a fly fishing outing, it is an experience. The fish here are truly one of a kind. Not only are they colossal in size but their girth seems to be centered in their shoulders  which truly give them an advantage over the novice angler. Bull runs  and chasing fish down is not uncommon.  If you want to challenge your  fly fishing skills try hooking into one of the double digit size trout  that reside in the two lakes. Pulled hooks, snapped tippet, broken hooks  and even the occasional boot failure can result in lost fish. The  fishing was truly incredible. Bring an assortment of gear. We used a  number of different flies with a multitude of presentation techniques.  We hooked most of our fish stripping steamers but also used small nymphs  under an indicator and spey rod techniques. It is challenging, fun and a  must do if you have ever held a fly rod."

Guest Report from Dave who has been to Eagle Canyon more than 30 times since 1993. He and his buddy George fished the lakes on opening weekend in 2010 and have returned many times since. "Lakes were in great shape, both produced well. Most fish came on stripped flys. This year is one of the best for girthy double digit fish. Eagle Canyon is a 'One of a kind Fishery!!'"

We had a great group up from the Chico area to fish the opening day of  Eagle Canyon.  Skill levels ranged from beginner to experienced and all  the anglers in the group had a great day.  We caught fish on dry/dropper  rigs, floating lines with wooly bugger type patterns and stripping  leech patterns on intermediate sink lines. Many fish in the 8-14 pound  range were caught and gently released.  Many hooks were bent straight.   Many smiles and high fives were exchanged. If you haven't made it up to  Eagle Canyon yet, come check it out!  This group estimated they caught at least 70 fish!  This group is already eager to place the winning bid on next year's Opening Day trip.

Eagle canyon report by DJ Spivey

I recently had the chance to fish a few days up on a eagle canyon with a great group of guys. With harsh weather rolling through Northern California we decided to head east out of red bluff up to the Eagle canyon lakes. Starting off strong on smaller Woolley bugger patterns we stripped up some huge fish! Both days we picked up fish on streamers, indicator rigs and dry dropper set ups. If your looking to have a shot at some big rainbow trout eagle canyon is definitely a spot to check out!

Regular guest Tony from Red Bluff says: "The Eagle Canyon experience is truly a one of a kind fly fishing event.  Great times and great memories complimented with extraordinary fishing.  Everyone in our group hooked fish. All in all we had 25+ fish peeling  line off our reels and we landed about 17 fish that can only be  described as Jurassic in nature. Eagle Canyon is truly a spectacular  experience to any fishing enthusiast."

Excellent fishing

Here is a fishing report from longtime Eagle Canyon guest Rocky:

"Eagle Canyon fished really well. Had a few lulls, but steady fishing  throughout the day. The highlight of my day was catching fish on dry  flies. I think in all the years I've been fishing there, I only caught  one fish on a dry. Monday it was multiple fish. Was fishing a dry  dropper at the end of the day (#18 PT under a 14 Parachute Adams).  Really was just using the adams as an indicator. Low and behold, they  start smacking the dry. Landed dozens of fish throughout the day.  Balanced Leeches, Squirmy Wormies, Zebra Midges all caught fish. Thanks  again for your great guides and great locations. Can't wait to do it  again."
